Friday Question

After the latest Random Acts of Kick Arse theme of beauty, this week’s question is timely. It’s taken from the book “If², 500 Questions for the Game of Life“ by Evelyn McFarlane and James Saywell;

If you had to name the one most important ingredient of human beauty, what would you say it is?

The one most important ingredient of human beauty for me would be spirit. By spirit I mean an enthusiasm for living, liveliness, energy and passion – “the force” if you will.

In my opinion, there’s nothing more beautiful in a human being than an unbridled exhilaration for life.

In the words of a little, green, arse whoopin, Jedi Master, “May the force be with you.”

Your turn! What would you say is the one most important ingredient of human beauty?

    Can I say, ditto? Though I have to admit the afore mentioned ingredient was “passion” to me all this while, but “spirit” sounds better, given that I used the former term to mean just what you say here.

    Generousity. Going past what is expected and surprising someone! And I don’t think I spelt it right – sorry :)

    Caring.

    Caring from the heart (which I really believe is so, so closely related to “spirit”). I experienced this very deeply recently…and it was such a powerful moment for me…to know that someone cared so much…it’s hard, really, to describe. What I do know, though, is that I could this person’s presence, in my own soul…and it was so meaningful.

    Hi S. You totally can say ditto! Passion and spirit could really be used interchangably. For me, the word spirit resonates more. It somehow feels more energised or something. Thanks for stopping by.

    Hey there Kirsty. Generosity is a good one. I’m a fan of that ingredient too! Spelling is over-rated! :)

    @Lance
    Well Lance my friend, there’s no shortage of that ingredient in you. Showing we care and being shown by others that they care about us is really what life is all about me thinks.

    Hi Sami,

    Yoda totally rocks. I know someone from Nepal who looks so much like Yoda. It is so cool. Anyway…I agree with you and would say spirit too. I love to see people who just love life and really make the most out of each day.

    May the force be with you too! :)

    Hey Nadia. Yeah, for a little guy, Yoda can whoop some serious ass!
    I’ve found hanging out with people who make the most out of each day is infectious too. They’re great people to be around.
    Hmm, the force in you is strong I sense. ;) Thanks Nadia!

    I would say joy (which in the end is just another way of saying spirit).

    Caring is human beauty. As Leo F. Buscaglia once said. ““Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” This is the type of person I want to be and hang around with.

    I would have to say having ginger hair is a critical ingredient to human beauty!

    Hi Cheryl. Yep, joy sure is a great ingredient of human beauty. Thanks for stopping by.

    Hey there Chick J. SO true. Love that quote. Chris, my partner, is hugely caring and I am eternally grateful for that. It’s one of the biggest traits I love about him.

    I’d say kindness!

    “When having to choose between being right and being kind, choose kindness.” I forget who said that. Ghandi maybe? Somebody who definitely kicks arse in the humanity book.

  16. Sami said:

    @Jannie
    Yep, Ghandi is an arse kickin humanitarian all right, and one who epitomises kindness. Can you imagine how different the world would be if everyone chose being kind over being right? It’d be a case of wars be gone! Sounds like my kind of place. Thanks Jannie!

    Hi Sami — yes, spirit or vitality is a very beautiful thing to me as well — I can see it in the aliveness in people’s eyes when they’re focused on being here and enjoying this moment, rather than mentally jumping around through their obligations and problems.

  18. Sami said:

    @Chris
    Hey Chris. Ooo, I like the word vitality. That describes what I mean by spirit for sure. And you’re right, I hadn’t thought about it that way but someone who’s displaying spirit IS focused on being in the moment and enjoying it for what it is. Great point, thanks!
